We could see the potential

The adventure of our first house begins. We purchased this house March 6, 2006 and at the time we thought we had found a great house we would do a little work to and then move. The market was a lot different in 2006 and 6 years later we are still doing our "little projects"

So whats the first thing you do when you move in?............Take out the kitchen.
(before)
(working on it)

We started this project the day we got the keys to our house, and in fact had purchased the cabinets ahead of time from Home Depot-http://www.google.com/url?sa=D&q=http://homedepot.com/&usg=AFQjCNF3rMsq6wa454WcIL6Gv2uVhWEQAw

The kitchen before was OK but we didn't love the layout and the house sat empty for two years with the back sliding door open- which allowed the rodents to move in and use the kitchen as a bathroom.

This is Travis- trying to figure out how to get a bigger window in the kitchen. Its tricky (we found out) because this house is actually made of cinder block full of cement. It took hours to make that hole big enough for a regular window.

So this is what it has looked like for many years, until now :) We got our hands on a few free skylights from a very kind person Travis works with.

Plastic to keep the mess under control
looking up at the new skylight- Travis has to move wires/pipes and wood to make this happen!
We also decided to put in 6 canned lights- which has completely changed the feeling of this kitchen.
We added another light switch on the other side of the room for convenience. We still have to redo the texture on the ceiling, walls and all the way down the hallway then paint- but I think this project will finally be complete. I will update soon!
